About the Breeds

Our Mini Aussiedoodles are a cross between an Austrailian Shepherd and a Miniature Poodle. Our Mini Bordoodles are a cross between a Border Collie and a Miniature Poodle. All of these parent breeds fall into the top 10 of the world's smartest dogs. Because of this, they are highly trainable. They like being active, playing games and socializing. At the same time, they are very affectionate, loyal and make great pets for families with children or active young adults.

Temperament

The Aussiedoodle and Bordoodle breeds are both playful and interactive. Both breeds are very attached to other dogs, their owners, and especially children. They make wonderful pets for the entire family because they display their affection so openly that one cannot help but respond in kind. They are well-balanced and they generally have no problems with other dogs or with other house pets. Because both parent breeds are highly intelligent, they bring amazing trainability to the table making them wonderful pets as they are super quick learners.

These breeds both foster good relationships with humans, especially children because it is in their very nature. Since they make the first approach to people, they are very poor guard dogs or even watchdogs but they can be protective if they feel their family is threatened. They are very athletic and agile. Without a high rate of mental and physical exercise they can become bored. These dogs are best suited for the active family.

Adaptability and Training

These are intelligent dogs that are very eager to learn. Since by nature they socialize easily, they can be exposed to socialization early, so that they get along well with other animal pets as well as the humans they will be exposed to in a domesticated environment. Harsh, abrupt, or heavy handed training methods will not produce quick results, and should be avoided. The training should be imparted with patience and firmness, and the methods should be consistent to get the best results in the shortest time.

These dogs need to be active at least part of the day, or they can get bored and indulge in activities that turn out to be destructive. A fenced yard or a visit to the dog park can help them to burn off energy. An indoor dog will need to be walked two or more times daily and will require mental stimulation as well. We highly recommend getting involved in a puppy socialization class soon after bringing your new baby home. There are lots of great classes you can take with your new puppy, they excel in agility work, scent work, and obedience and most importantly therapy work.

Grooming Requirements

Aussiedoodles and Bordoodles are an awesome combination of Australian Shepherd/Border Collie and Poodle - the best of both worlds. They have hair not fur with little to no undercoat! They are very low- to non-shedding, even in the first generation or F1 cross (50% Aussie/Border Collie and 50% Poodle). Because they have hair, they DO have to be groomed on occasion. We normally groom every 2-3 months, not nearly as often as the Poodle. We like our Doodles to have that well groomed appearance. If you want more bang for your buck ask your groomer to use a #4 blade, it makes the body shorter, still nice to touch, and your cut will last longer - a good choice for the hot summer months!

Their ears will need to be checked regularly to ensure they are clean and dry and their nails will need to be trimmed monthly. As with the Miniature Poodle, the Mini Bordoodles and Mini Aussiedoodles have hair in their ears, so its important to have your groomer pull it. Each person has the way they like their dog to look, the choices are endless - just try to find a groomer that does a job you can be happy with, treats your dog with loving care, and doesn't break the bank!

It is also important to prevent tooth decay and gum disease in your puppy. Daily tooth brushing is ideal to prevent tartar buildup. Additionally, keeping bones, antlers and horns available for your dog to chew goes a long way to help keep their teeth clean. Getting your puppy used to having their paws and ears handled and introducing them to having their teeth brushed early on will make grooming and care much easier as they grow.

Life Expectancy

Miniature Aussiedoodles and Miniature Bordoodles have a life expectancy of 12-15 years. Generally hybrid dogs are healthier than purebred dogs because cross breeding corrects a lot of negative health traits.

Our dogs has been health tested genetically though Embark, Paw Print Genetics, or Animal Genetics as well as OFA screened.

Doodle Run Kennels offers a 2 year health guarantee from date of Birth.
